So, the walls in the nursery were a much bigger job than I was anticipating. The previous home owner had who knows how many layers of wallpaper and at least a couple of coats of paint on top of that in this room. The only thing I could see in this room was wallpaper seams and I couldn't live with keeping it that way for the nursery. Rather than re-sheet rocking the entire room, we opted for a technique that involves skim coating the walls to hide the seams. One hallucinating inducing coat of oil-based primer, a skim coat, a round of sanding, another skim coat, another road of sanding, one more oil-based primer coat, and a coat of water-based primer for good measure later, I've got a blank canvas with no visible wallpaper seams:
Note the blue tape about a foot from the ceiling. This is a marker for what will be what I call the chair rail (technically, I think it's a plate rail). We chose scented valentine for the color above the chair rail and eggnog below. Here is the final product with white semi-gloss on the trim and chair rail:
The final touches before actually loading the room up with baby stuff was a couple of coats of textured paint on the ceiling, a new ceiling fan, new air diffuser, new light switch, and all new outlets and switch/outlet covers.
Did I mention that I applied five coats of paint in the closet?
